of an average lifetime is spent sleeping.

of adults sleep less than 7 hours per night.

What you sleep on makes a huge impact on the way you feel while you’re awake. Awakening well-rested is about more than just getting the recommended hours of sleep. The quality of sleep you are getting is beneficial to protecting your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.

Benefiting from Better Sleep

Improved memory

REM sleep plays a critical role in the consolidation of procedural memory. During sleep your brain strengthens memories and can practice skills learned while you were awake.

Avoid accidents

Driving while drowsy has a very similar effect to driving while intoxicated. Being awake for 18 hours is comparable to having a blood alcohol level of 0.05% (the level Alberta considers impaired). After 24 hours without sleep the comparable blood alcohol level rises to 0.10%.

Live longer

Not enough sleep can have a negative impact on immune function and cardiovascular risk. Studies also show a link between sleep deprivation and developing type 2 diabetes.

Spur creativity

During sleep your brain reorganizes, restructures and strengthens the emotional components of memories, which can result in increased creativity.

Be a winner

Better sleep, better recovery. Studies have shown that athletes who get 9-10 hours of sleep have improved speed, stamina and resistance to fatigue. During sleep your body works hard to build and repair damaged muscles which in turn makes them stronger.

Sharpen attention

Sleep loss impairs judgment, motivation, focus, memory, and learning. Without proper sleep, the brain struggles to consolidate memory and retain new knowledge.

Lower stress

Even partial sleep deprivation can have a significantly negative effect on mood and increase anxiety. Quality sleep can improve your mood and allow your brain to cope with everyday stress and anxiety.

To Flip or Not to Flip?

These days most mattresses are single sided and can’t be flipped. Mattresses at Healthy Bedroom can be flipped and rotated meaning they will retain their comfort and support for much longer. To avoid body impressions and sagging, it is recommended that your mattress be flipped and/or rotated, on average, every 3 months.

Natural & Organic

Dust mites, mould and other allergens can create an unhealthy place to rest your head. Natural fills like horsehair have amazing anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-mite properties to ensure your bedroom is a healthy haven.

Artificial materials and chemical treatments are all too common in today’s mattresses. With our beds, you can rest easy knowing you and your loved ones aren’t sleeping on highly flammable surfaces or breathing in harmful gasses.

Organic materials like wool wick away moisture to stay dry and ventilated. Your bed will even stay cool when your room is warm—and stay warm when it’s cool—making for the perfect sleep environment.

Hästens Horsehair

Natural beds from Healthy Bedroom are breathable, hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and crafted for comfort. The difference is night and day—and you deserve it.

Eco Friendly & Sustainable

Our mattresses are made from the earth. They are manufactured with many recyclable and biodegradable materials for a lower carbon footprint. Plus they’re built to last, so they won’t end up in a landfill after a few short years.

Artificial materials and chemical treatments are all too common in today’s mattresses. With our beds, you can rest easy knowing you and your loved ones aren’t sleeping on highly flammable surfaces or breathing in harmful gasses.

Many common mattresses like memory foam, include petroleum-based materials, like foams and adhesives, which contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that break down and off-gas. These toxic gasses are at their worst during the bed’s first few weeks, but can last for up to a decade after bringing them home.

Dust Mites & Mold

With less breathable materials, heat and moisture can be trapped within mattresses and pillows—creating the perfect breeding ground for dust mites and mould. Many people are highly allergic to dust mite droppings. Mould is unhealthy for everyone in the family, especially children.

Flammability & Chemicals

Unlike wool and other natural materials, synthetics like memory foam are highly flammable. Unfortunately, companies who combat this problem use flame-retardant sprays comprised of harmful toxic chemicals—creating a new problem while dealing with another. Wool and natural materials don't need to be sprayed because they are naturally fire retardant.

It’s time to feel good about your mattress.

Did you know most of today’s mattresses pose some risk to your health and wellbeing? Here are some facts to consider before choosing your next mattress.

Did you know?

A natural mattress will ensure you are breathing the cleanest, healthiest air possible in your sleeping space.

Most mattresses in Canada use a combination of foams or are made entirely of foam. During sleep the average person loses approximately 1 cup of moisture per night. A foam mattress absorbs and holds that moisture allowing mold and mildew to quickly build up. Mattresses made with natural fibres have superior wicking properties, pulling the moisture away from your body, moving it to the air which reduces the growth of mold, mildew and mites.

Many memory foam mattresses contain harmful, toxic chemicals. Foams break down and give off a gas which can affect the breathing of sensitive individuals. Mattresses made with natural materials do not have this problem.

Stay Cool

Memory foam mattresses tend to retain heat and can cause body temperatures to rise to uncomfortable levels.

Natural materials, especially wool, cotton, and horse hair, are amazing temperature regulators. Natural fibres trap dead air. Dead air is a fantastic insulator and provides a great buffer against the cold. Natural fibres also have great cooling properties. As your body warms up, moisture within the fibre will evaporate, cooling the air between you and your mattress.

During the night, your body uses thermoregulation to keep your core temperature in a healthy range. The sensations that come with this natural process can make it hard to sleep peacefully.

There’s no best mattress for sleep, there’s only a best mattress for you.

Your preferred sleeping position is a major factor in finding the right mattress for you. Stomach sleepers require a high level of support, side sleepers require less, and back sleepers fall somewhere in the middle.

Studies have also shown that gender-based anatomical differences can require different levels of support. Men with pronounced shoulders and women with pronounced hips require higher point elasticity in order to achieve spinal alignment.

Proper spinal alignment, particularly for side and stomach sleepers, can promote up to 49% more time in REM compared to sleeping with a misaligned or curved spine.

Crafted for Comfort

Our finely crafted mattresses support your spine without sagging, utilizing remarkable materials like natural latex rubber. Awaken rejuvenated every morning, free of aches and pains—ready to take on whatever life throws your way.

Support for your Back

Mattresses are often marketed as being plush or firm. But what really matters is how supportive a bed is for your spine. Poorly constructed mattresses, regardless of how firm they are, can leave your spine out of alignment, leading to morning aches and pains.

Organic materials like wool wick away moisture to stay dry and ventilated. Your bed will even stay cool when your room is warm—and stay warm when it’s cool—making for the perfect sleep environment.
